Mission Statement
Choral Music at Radford High School has a long tradition of excellence. Through participation in the choral music program, students learn not only the techniques of good singing and music literacy, but team work and self pride as well.
History of Radford High School Choirs
The Radford High School Choral program was established in 1949 by Mrs. Marie Dobbins (Reynolds) and has had only three choral directors since its inception. Mrs Dobbins currently lives on her family homestead in New Castle Virginia. Mrs. Lois Carr (choral director 1965-1986) passed away in 2005. Mrs. Lois Castonguay directed the Radford High School Choirs since 1987 and has recently
retired. She and her husband currently reside in Vermont on their
new farm. Mr. Darren Goad will be taking over the choral program
and is very excited to work in Radford City.
About Mr. Goad
Mr. Goad graduated from Floyd County High School in 2006 and was 10th in his class. He later graduated with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education in 2010 with Summa Cum Laude. Before coming to Radford, Mr. Goad taught middle and high school choir along with general music for six years in Marion, Virginia. During his time in Marion, Mr. Goad's choirs consistently scored Excellent and Superior Ratings at State Concert Assessments. Many of his students were also accepted into Honors Choirs such as All-District and All-Virginia Choirs, and several have went on to continue in music in their college careers.
